Dancing with the Orange Dog
A new production by the 154 Collective made up of artists, musicians, designers and actors opened earlier this month. Using theatre, dance, art, live projection
and music to tell the stories and create an intimate setting. Jason Salvin (also responsible for the set and lighting design)
drew upon Green Hippo’s Critter media server to provide and control the projections. These were made up of moving images, photographs and backdrops to
engage with the performers and help tell the personal stories. By utilising the media servers layers various images could be projected at one time but
mapped onto different parts of the set which could fold inwards to create various locations and settings. Whilst some content was delivered as a short
film or animation some was manipulated using the Critters many functions which included mapping the set, effects, live mask, keystone and timeline functions.
Jason also used the Critter as a lighting tool drawing on gobo effects and diffused backdrops to add further depth to the stage area and compliment the small
rig of conventional fixtures.
The production played Theatre in the Mill, Bradford, The Arc, Stockton and the Lowry, Salford and is now in discussions for Edinburgh Theatre Festival and a further UK Tour.
